Latino teen with Down syndrome crowned homecoming king by supportive community (VIDEO)

Well, this story will definitely brighten up your day! A San Diego teen with Down syndrome was recently named his high school's homecoming king after the whole school rallied together to help him gain his victory.

Classmates and teachers at the California high school were so pleased to hear about 18-year-old Ivan Mendoza's nomination that they decided to lend their full support, going to extra lengths to help him win. In fact, the teen is so popular and respected that even his fellow homecoming king nominees got in on the act, dropping out of the competition in a heartwarming show of support for Mendoza.

And community members outside of the school were also rooting for Mendoza to earn the title. One local shop even donated a tuxedo for him to wear to the homecoming dance this past weekend, where he was donning his crown and hanging out with the classmates who supported him.

Aww! Isn't that just a great story to kick off your week? With all of the horrible bullying cases we've seen lately, it's so nice and refreshing to hear that students and adults can band together to do something positive for someone else. Their efforts just prove how rewarding it can be to show support for a peer who needs and deserves it.

I hope Mendoza enjoys his reign as homecoming king!
