They say a picture is worth a thousand words and that is definitely true in this case. The photo was taken by a Colorado police officer during a traffic stop during a "Click it or Ticket" campaign last week. The Colorado Department of Transportation posted it on its Facebook page causing immediate comments from outraged readers who couldn't believe who'd be capable of something like this.
Apparently, the child's mother made an illegal left turn and was pulled over by a police officer who not only noticed she wasn't wearing a seat belt, but neither were her two children. One was her 14-year-old son in the passanger's seat and the diaper-wearing toddler seen in the picture.

Her excuse? "We just forgot." WTH? Is this woman for real? I'm sorry, how do is it that you "forget" to buckle up your toddler, but have no problem remembering to buckle up a gas can in his car seat instead? What is wrong with people? Or, more to the point, what is wrong with parents?
The folks at CDOT couldn't believe it either and so they posted this message to go together with the photo on their Facebook page:
Unbelievable! This heartbreaking photo was taken by an officer with the Aurora Police Department during Click It or Ticket enforcement last week. Share it to remind everyone that life is precious, so please be responsible and make sure children are properly restrained in the appropriate child safety seat.
I feel so terrible for that child because if his mom is capable of doing something so idiotic, I can't even imagine what other kinds of danger he faces on a regular basis. I seriously doubt that getting tickets for seatbelt and car seat violations will teach this mother a lesson.

Let's pray that nothing tragic happens to this child thanks to his mother's negligence. I'm sorry, but some people should NOT be parents.
