Demi Lovato says she feels “most beautiful” without makeup & she’s a total inspiration

Singer, actress, and activist Demi Lovato recently sat down with TV show host Drew Barrymore to chat about her YouTube docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing With the Devil, in honor of Beauty Week on The Drew Barrymore Show, and revealed that she feels most beautiful and comfortable with herself when she's not wearing any makeup at all. The comment was something of a revelation from the 28-year-old entertainer, who has publicly battled with mental health and drug abuse issues.

"I think I feel the most beautiful when I have a bare face, even in my sweatpants, just hanging out with my friends," said Demi, who has previously struggled with disordered eating, over-exercising, and the pressures of constantly being under the microscope of the public eye. In Dancing With the Devil, she even discusses how manufactured and controlled her image was earlier in her career.

The "Confident" singer is staying true to herself.

Demi has spent the years since her near-fatal overdose in 2018 coming into her own both as an entertainer and personally, and at various times tested the waters of showing up on social media makeup-free and in her coziest gear, inspiring fans to do so themselves. Now she's doubling down on that message of confidence and body positivity.

Demi says it's about feeling like yourself.

Demi, who has condemned unrealistic beauty expectations in the past, went on to say, "I don't know, that's just when I feel the most like myself. [Just] clean and comfy"—and we couldn't agree more. There's something freeing about a fresh face, and we love that Demi is promoting that idea so publicly.

Demi has long loved being makeup-free, and it's empowering.

There was a time Demi posted makeup-free selfies on her social media accounts more regularly; however, recently she's mostly been seen all-glammed up to promote her various new projects. But her empowering message hasn't wavered. Demi captioned a clean-faced selfie back in February, "…it's important to show myself underneath it all. This is what I look like 85%-90% of the time. Proud of my freckles, proud of booty chin and proud of myself for loving and accepting myself the way I am. #ILoveMe."

Even her new short haircut is a part of accepting who she is.

While chatting with Drew, Demi went on to explain how her new ultra-short haircut is a part of embracing her true self, regardless of appearance. Demi seems to believe that beauty truly is about authenticity and self-acceptance.

She's not ignoring who she is any longer.

"I'm doing what I need to do for myself and my well-being. I'm putting myself first in front of my career, and that's something I had never done before. I was so preoccupied with being the sexy, feminine pop star that I just ignored who I am," Demi told Drew.

Demi is working on freeing herself.

"I cut my hair because I just wanted to free myself from all the gender and sexuality norms that were placed on me as a Christian from the South," the "Anyone" singer explained. "And when I cut my hair, I felt so liberated. I wasn't subscribing to an ideal placed upon me to be someone that I'm not," she said.

Every woman should be so bold.

The reality is, every woman should be striving for the sort of confidence, self-acceptance, and boldness that Demi is embracing. We're so proud that she is using her massive platform to set such a powerful example for women.

"Now that I'm owning who I am, I feel the happiest I've ever felt and that's because I'm being honest," Demi said on the talk show, describing to perfection why all women should embrace their bare faces and natural bodies.
