Kendall Jenner criticized over massive, maskless birthday party: Here are all the details

Model and reality star Kendall Jenner is celebrating her 25th birthday today, and despite her efforts to keep her birthday celebrations under wraps, details about a massive Halloween-themed party have emerged, and the public isn't too happy about her choices. Apparently, there were about 100 guests at Kendall's party—a major social misstep during a global pandemic.

While Kendall and crew claim that each of her party guests received a rapid COVID-19 test before entering the event, she's been criticized for being completely out of touch and insensitive during a major worldwide crisis. Keep reading to find out all the details we know about Kendall Jenner's birthday party and why people are so upset about it.

Kendall was almost unrecognizable in her costume.

With her birthday being just a few days after Halloween, Kendall hosted a costume party to celebrate her 25th. She dressed up as Pamela Anderson in the 1996 film Barb Wire and looked almost completely unrecognizable in her patent leather bodysuit and blond wig.

Tons of celebrities were at Kendall's costume party.

Kendall Jenner's massive Halloween-themed birthday costume party was a star-studded affair. Guests included her famous sisters Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian, Scott Disick, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber, Jaden Smith and many other celebs.

Followers called out the hypocrisy.

In photos and videos from the party that were leaked, it appears that while the staff were masked, none of the guests were. There was also no apparent social distancing, which led many social media users to call out the fact that many of the celebrities in attendance have themselves pushed and promoted masking up and social distancing but weren't doing it themselves.

Guests weren't supposed to post on social media.

Guests at the party received a note upon arriving welcoming them to take photos but asking them not to post anything on social media, leading many people to believe that Kendall was well aware that her choice to host such a large gathering could be controversial.

Kylie Jenner has been accused of not honoring the request.

Kendall's little sister, Kylie Jenner—who dressed up as a designer cobra for the party—was accused of being the first guest to leak images from the event. "My favorite part of the Kendall Jenner party drama is the fact that all the celebs thought they would get away with it bc there was a no social media rule but kylies need for attention [expletive] it up for all of them," wrote Twitter user stateofmolly.

The party was outdoors.

Kendall's party was held at Harriet's Rooftop at 1 Hotel in West Hollywood, California, so it was outdoors, but even still, from the images that we've seen so far, it looks like the guests were pretty much on top of each other.

Friends gathered close to sing "Happy Birthday."

However, it looks like Kendall's friends gathered close indoors to sing "Happy Birthday" and watch Kendall blow out her birthday candles. Singing in a group is considered a virus no-no because of the high number of particles that are released during singing, and of course, blowing out candles on a cake that many people will eat isn't considered safe, either.

The waitstaff wore various forms of PPE.

In one tweet from Kendall's party, it's apparent that the restaurant's waitstaff donned PPE. Some were masked, and others wore both a mask and a face shield to serve at the packed party. They appear in stark contrast to the maskless guests.

They were not all comfortable with the situation.

In another tweet, a masked member of the waitstaff who appears quite aware of the risk of blowing in close proximity to other people can be seen backing his head away as Kendall cheerily blows out the candles on her birthday sheet cake, which was emblazoned with a childhood photo of her.

Social distancing efforts were nonexistent.

Celebrity after celebrity were photographed hugging, dancing together, and posing for photos in their costumes side by side—a sight many people are not used to seeing in 2020. Similar behavior was also observed during Kim Kardashian's 40th birthday getaway with friends and family.

Some celebrities were accused of being insensitive.

Celebrities like Jaden Smith, who appeared to be dressed as a COVID-19 patient for the party, have been called out for their insensitivity. "I'm beyond disgusted," said one Twitter user about Jaden's costume.

Justin Bieber had a mask, but didn't wear it.

Singer Justin Bieber and his wife, Hailey, posed wearing masks outside of the party, but they didn't appear to be wearing them while they were in close proximity to other guests, essentially defeating the purpose and making them look more like a trendy accessory than protective equipment.

Lots of people have unfollowed celebrities who attended.

The social media backlash against Kendall and essentially all of the guests who attended her birthday party has been swift and scathing. Many people have claimed to "cancel" all of the celebs who attended, and some have even unfollowed some or all of the guests on their various social media platforms.

Kendall might regret her decision.

After days of being slammed by the public for what many believe is an irresponsible choice, Kendall might be regretting her choice to host such a big event during the pandemic. As they say, "Hindsight is always 20/20."

Kendall might be trying to shift the narrative.

While her mom, Kris, has now come to Kendall's defense publicly, Kendall has yet to address the criticism herself. Instead, she posted photos of herself in her costume from the party along with a message urging her followers to get out and vote on Election Day.
