Demi Lovato seemed so in love and we were so happy for her. The singer and her now ex fiancé, actor Max Ehrich, gave us all tiny peeks into their romance and their relationship, and things seemed to be going pretty darned well for the two lovebirds. At first, the "I Love Me" singer was quietly dating The Young and the Restless actor as they practiced social distancing and shacked up together, but in July they got engaged and were not shy about sharing it with the world.

The pair were first reported to be dating in March 2020, and started appearing together on each other's social media channels—much to our delight. We loved it when during one of Max's Instagram Live video chats during social distancing Demi accidentally appeared in the video confirming that they were not only dating, but doing the social distancing thing together. On July 22, 2020 when they both shared photos of their engagement, we squealed in delight. Alas, the relationship appears to have come to a screeching halt now that they are no longer together 24/7 and working on different coasts. Still we have pictures of their whirlwind relationship to remind us that we didn't imagine the whole thing. Wanna see?
Max seemed so smitten by Demi.
Not only was he head over heels for his formerly darling Demi, he didn't care who knew it either. Case in point, the adorable clip he posted of himself kissing on Demi as she looks directly and confidently into the camera on July 4. It's clear he was feeling the fireworks in a very personal way. At the time we thought, "Good for him! Love should be celebrated. None of this too cool for PDA stuff for him."
Demi was totally into Max, too.
As you can see, she was really into him, too, and was not afraid to let everyone know. "Oh man this might be my favorite pic of us so far… thank you for making me the happiest I love yew soooo much @maxehrich ," she captioned a photo of them smiling from ear to ear and looking like they are about to kiss.

You better be because it's about to rain down sugar courtesy of Demi. She posted a series of photos of herself and Max that are like a little scrapbook of their time together, but her words in the caption are what really bring the sugar. We're going to spoon it out as opposed to giving it to you all at once.
Here comes the sugar, get ready for it!
"BAAAYYBEEE – I have so much fun with you and there’s so many things I want to say right now but I want to be present and spend this bday with you so I’ll be quick," she wrote to start off her lovely caption.
At least she really enjoyed their time together.
"Being with you makes life SO MUCH FUN We literally act like hooligans on the daily and don’t give a [expletive] if we’re embarrassing ourselves if others are around!!" she continued. We removed the expletive she used in case your kids are reading over your shoulder, but let's just say it starts with an F, ends with a K, and rhymes with duck.
He made her feel loved unconditionally ... for a minute.
"I spend my days with you, bare faced and in a bathing suit.." Demi wrote. "I feel unconditionally loved and accepted by you in a way that I’ve never felt before.. I can’t explain it or you.. you’re indescribable, you beautiful, man."
She complimented Max on his looks.
"Inside and out you are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.. You’re also such a positive lil beam of light in my life and I can’t wait to make more birthday memories together.. here’s to the future baby," she shared. He is not hard on the eyes.
She ended her tribute with a funny thing about one of her dogs trying to steal Max.
“I love you @maxehrich p.s. everyone swipe to see my dog Ella literally trying to steal my man… ,” she concluded. Hey, it’s a great sign when your dog loves your partner, don’t you think? We thought that if Demi’s dogs loved him, that’s had to be a good thing. What the heck do we know?
They had a chance to spend some time in the desert together.
“Had an amazing weekend in the magical desert of Joshua Tree with my love @maxehrich ❤️,” she captioned a series of photos of a trip they took together. She posted the series on June 15. At the time, it was seemed that even after spending so much time together since March, they still wanted to spend as much time together as possible.
Demi went to the desert for work.
Although the visit to the desert was a working trip for Demi, Max went along simply to be with Demi. We know because she wrote: "Went to work on a project but it was so nice to get away for a couple days.. thank you for making me so happy my dear.. I love going on adventures with you ☀️."
They spent a lot of time in the pool together.
Not sure how much of that time they spend swimming, though. They seemed to be too busy cuddling and smooching on each other to get much of a swim in, but can you blame them? They were in their own little love bubble, until it burst.
They were even in a music video together.
The couple appeared in the video for Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande's song "Stuck With U" together. "My whole heart. #stuckwithu ," he captioned the sweet video. She also shared it and wrote: "Happy to be a part of something so special right now. Like really REALLY happy if you can’t tell…"
She publicly said, "I love you."
Demi shared the cutest pic of Max giving her a kiss on the cheek to her Instagram Story and the caption she wrote was the sweetest. She said, "I love you" for the first time publicly. "I now spend my days in bathing suit with no makeup with someone who accepts and loves me for who I am; flaws and all. I love you @mmaxehrich," she captioned this sweet photo of them in May.
This video is so freaking cute!
The singer shared the funniest video of herself and Max and it made us smile from ear to ear. She used a filter that gave her a beard and unibrow and she made fun of the fact that no beauty salons were open at the time. She joked about her eyebrows, but instead of going along with the teasing, Max quickly kissed her.
Mirror kissing selfies are a must for new couples.
Mirror selfies are usually the first pics a couple takes, especially if they are social distancing with no one else around, like Demi and Max did. The then couple shared a kiss while snapping a pic and we thought it was darling.
They also shared some puppy love.
The couple spent a lot of time with Demi's two dogs and even took a sweet selfie with them in the mirror. We really thought that they were going to become one big happy family since sharing pets is usually a sign that things are getting pretty serious in a relationship.
That smile on Demi's face was magical.
It looked like Demi had found herself a winner! The singer has had some on-and-off flings for some time, but it looked like her relationship with Max was going to stand the test of time. Spending months indoors together really fast-tracked their relationship, but maybe it was all just too much, too soon.
He made the relationship Instagram official.
Max shared the most awesome photos of Demi on his Instagram feed, making it clear that she was his lady. "Mi amor ♾ ," he captioned the post in May. Fans found old tweets that Max wrote in 2011 where he proclaimed his love for Demi. "All I wanted for Christmas was Demi Lovato," he shared in December 2011, and nine years later, his dreams came true. Too bad it was so short-lived.
