In a case of every mom's worst nightmare coming true, a dying nurse who worked at the University Teaching Hospital in Zambia claims she swapped more than 5,000 babies at birth over the course of her 12-year career as a maternity ward nurse. "I used to swap babies at UTH for fun," she said earlier this week according to The Zambian Observer.

The nurse, Elizabeth Bwalya Mwewa, claims that she is coming forward now because she knows she is dying and hopes that God will forgive her. Honestly though, we find it difficult to fathom that any one person could be so cruel and that a single person could manage something like on such a huge scale.
She's asking for God's forgiveness.
"May God forgive me for my sins," Mwewa said. "I have terminal cancer and I know I will be dying soon. I wish to confess my sins before God and before all the affected people especially those who were giving birth at UTH during my service. I have found God, I'm now born again. I have nothing to hide, In the 12 years I worked in the maternity ward at UTH, I swapped close to 5,000 babies," she said.
It's completeley outrageous.
Mwewa says that her crimes were against families who had babies at UTH between 1983 and 1995, explaining that she knows that families have split up after DNA testing and that she knows because of her many women breastfed babies that were not their own biologically.
She says a demon used her.
"It's now that I have realized I was just being used by a demon to do that," Mwewa claims revealing that she has since found God.
We're not the only ones who find it hard to believe.
This story is just too shocking and many folks across the Internet are calling hoax. The details just don't make a ton of sense and The Zambian Observer doesn't even mention who Mwewa confessed to. The Lusaka Times has reported that an investigation has been opened and that preliminary findings have determined the story isn't true. Apparently, there wasn't even a midwife/nurse by the name of Elizabeth Bwalya Mwewa registered in Zambia between 1983 and 1995!
It takes a sick mind to commit these crimes or to make up those stories.
Regardless of whether Mwewa's confession is true, this horrible story will undoubtedly affect many lives. It truly takes a sick mind to commit crimes against innocent newborn babies or even to invent a false story about doing so.
