Ever since Meghan Markle joined the royal family, she has broken royal protocol like its her job. It is very refreshing considering that most of the Duchess of Sussex's deviations are in the beauty and fashion department. Everything from ditching pantyhose to wearing a handbag across her body to dressing in an unconventional color for a special occasion is "breaking the rules" and makes headlines.

Meghan's latest step away from tradition happened at the 2018 British Fashion Awards on Monday. The Duchess made a surprise appearance at the event to present the British Designer of the Year Womenswear award. She stunned in a gorgeous black gown that put her baby bump on full display, but it was a much smaller detail that went against royal norms that got people talking.
Meghan wore a Givenchy dress to present the brand’s artistic director, Clare Waight Keller, with the womenswear honor.
Clare designed Meghan’s wedding dress, so it was fitting that the Duchess made an appearance.
The mom-to-be was positively radiant and cradled her baby bump while she was on the stage.
So cute!
Zoom in and you’ll notice that Meghan chose a dark nail polish to match her black gown, which is unheard of for a royal.
Yes, even your nails are observed under a microscope if you're part of the royal family.
Queen Elizabeth set the standard by consistently wearing neutral nail polish.
Essie’s "Ballet Slippers," a sheer pink, has reportedly been her polish of choice since 1989! Kate Middleton has stuck to neutrals as well when it comes to her hands.
Meghan’s dark nails sent her fans into a frenzy.
It is so funny how her subtle style choices have turned her into a rebellious icon.
Meghan has made it clear that she isn't going to blindly follow all of the rules when it comes to her style.
A source told People earlier this year that Meghan "has found certain rules in the royal household difficult to understand, like the fact that the Queen prefers women in dresses or skirts rather than trouser suits, and is often asking Harry why things have to be done in a certain way."
But Meghan's bold nails and other unexpected style choices aren't turning people against her.
The Duchess' individuality is helping her win over the hearts of other rule-breakers. Love it!
