Kim Kardashian claps back at critics over daughter North’s straightened hair

Kim Kardashian is yet again being criticized on social media and this time it's about her parenting. The mom of three caused some controversy among some fans who reacted to the reality TV star straightening young daughter North West's hair.

North, whom Kim shares with husband Kanye West, got her usually curly locks straightened on two separate occasions in June to celebrate her birthday. But now her mom is clapping back at critics who are making a big deal about how she chooses to style her daughter's hair. While it's really no one's business but Kim's, every curly girl out there knows that heat really does nada bueno for your hair.

The child wore her hair straight to celebrate her fifth birthday on June 15, and prior to that, she debuted her new look at her joint unicorn-themed birthday party with cousin Penelope Disick on June 3. While she looks super cute with both styles, her mamá has since been receiving some backlash from people who say the child is too young and also accusing the mom of ruining her child's curls.

Kim responded to the hair scandal in a recent interview.

The KKW Beauty founder seemed unfazed about the ordeal when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter. "She wanted straight hair and I straightened her hair one time," she said. "It's funny, because online everyone thought that we pressed it and did this whole thing. It was just a flat iron.”

She also slammed rumors that the chiquita had extensions on.

Kim gave a quick lesson on how cabello rizado works. “I even read that she had extensions on! She has curly hair, so when you straighten her hair, it's gonna look really long. I can't believe people didn't get that,” she added. “Sometimes you just have to tune it out! It was her birthday and all she wanted was to try to have her hair straightened."

Kim sees no harm in allowing her baby girl to go all out for her big day.

After hairstylist Chris Appleton did her hair for the unicorn party, Northie liked it. The little one then tried the look again when she was in NYC celebrating her birthday with her parents and some friends at Sugar Factory. "She liked it, so we did it when we went to New York too and that's it. You know, I'm not gonna let her straighten her hair all the time, but if she wants it that way two or three days a year, then that's fine with me,” Kim shared. "She loved it, but she loves her curly hair, too."

It's good that she's instilling the importance of North loving her natural curly pelo, since it would be pretty sad to see her lose her adorable curl pattern if this becomes a habit.

The ‘Selfish’ book author is dealing with some hair drama herself.

Kim attended the MTV Movie Awards on June 18 wearing Fulani braids and was again accused of cultural appropriation by some people on Twitter. While speaking to Bustle days after the show. she said she "in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyone's culture" but only got them to match her daughter who was “so excited” when they had the same hairstyles. "I actually didn't see backlash. I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her," Kim said. "So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair."

"I remember the backlash when I had the blonde hair and that I called them 'Bo Derek braids.' But I obviously know they're called Fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and I'm totally respectful of that," she added. "I'm not tone deaf to where I don't get it. I do get it."
