Kylie Jenner’s shredded Balmain gown is pure genius

When it comes to fashion, the Kardashian-Jenner clan loves to push the envelope, which is why I wasn't the least bit surprised to see Kylie Jenner walk the red carpet at Marie Claire's "Image Makers" award party last night in a strangely shredded dress. Balmain designer Oliver Rousteing who was honored that night, was also the one to design her purple gown.

The Balmain gown was basically a two-piece with a sheer panel that consisted of ruffles all over. The cuts on the side not only exposed her legs but also showed some butt cheeks–because of course. I have mixed feelings about this number.

A part of me wants to love it. It's Kylie Jenner and she's known for her edgy fashion, so how could I expect less? Plus, let's be honest for a second: If Rihanna wore this thing everyone would absolutely love it. We'd say it was genius. But then there's a part of me that can't help but compare it to a pair of wrinkled purple curtains that a dog ripped apart.

I was wondering why this dress seemed so familar to me, and it's because big sister Kourtney Kardashian wore something incredibly similiar to the 2016 Angel Ball back in November. Maybe they're starting a trend?

Love it or hate it, this is the kind of dress that gets people talking. The same way Jennifer Lopez's infamous Versace number at the 2000 Grammys still has people talking. If Kylie becomes a style icon–which she already is on her way of becoming–this is one of the dresses that will be mentioned as part of her fashion legacy. If she ever wins CFDA award, this will be why. In fact, the more I think about this, the more I realize I actually kind of dig this dress. Damn, it's too bad I can't find anything similar on Asos.com.
