
We rule all day–every day, but 2016 has been an especially amazing year to be Latina. We have been changing the world for the best by breaking barriers and glass ceilings. Justice Sonia Sotomayor and comedian Melissa Villaseñor are just some of the Latinas making us proud and ruling 2016–so far. Justice Sonia Sotomayor is set to receive the Hispanic Heritage Foundation's prestigious Leadership Award on September 22nd.

In June, she challenged the criminal justice system in several dissents protecting the Fourth Amendment rights. “It is no secret that people of color are disproportionate victims of this type of scrutiny,” she wrote. The Bronx native, who has been on the Supreme Court bench since 2009, was clear in her support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

“I want to make sure that [my acting] comes across that I’m proud to be Latina, and [that if you’re Hispanic] you should be, too,” she shared with the New Times.
As a political director, Amanda Renteria is the highest-ranking Latina staff member on Hillary Clinton's campaign.
