Zoe Saldana may play kick-ass roles on-screen, but she's human just like the rest of us. The Star Trek Beyond actress recently sat down with Net-a-Porter's The Edit magazine and dropped a bombshell about her health. While the Latina star may look perfectly healthy and always plays the part, she's actually suffering from a terrible disease. I find her even more inspiring now.

Saldana revealed that she suffers from an illness called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, a disease her sisters and mother also share. Earlier this year, actress Gina Rodriguez also confirmed she was diagnosed with the thyroid disease. "Your body doesn't have the energy it needs to filter toxins, causing it to believe that it has an infection, so it's always inflamed," Saldana told the magazine. "You
create antibodies that attack your glands, so you have to eat clean."
Genes and hormones are the major causes of the condition, which also include symptoms like fatigue, muscle ache, depression and hair loss. To think that Saldana works over 12 hours days on set and takes care of her twin sons, Cy and Bowie, while dealing with this condition makes me feel like she's truly supermom.
We somehow think that Hollywood stars have it easier, and in some ways they do, but life struggles affect everyone. I'm glad Saldana shared her story because just like her, there are countless of women battling for their health. She inspires them and all of us to enjoy every moment and let your strength shine.
