A New York woman named Jennifer Connell recently decided to sue her 12-year-old nephew for being too excited over his 8th birthday. Her lawsuit for $127,000 claims that the boy was way too excited over his party and jumped on her when he greeted her, which caused her to break her wrist.
Hot coffee
A case in 1992 made McDonald's history and not in a good way. A woman from New Mexico sued after receiving serious burns after her coffee spilled on her legs and groan while driving. She was awarded $2.9 million for her injuries.

Who knew mayonnaise could cause so much conflict? In 2014, the owner of Unilever, who makes Hellman's mayonnaise, sued a competitior's brand for using the word "mayo" in their packaging. The company felt like they couldn't use the word since the product contained no eggs.
Dry cleaners
In 2007, a man from Washington, D.C. sued his local dry cleaners for $54 million for failing to return the pants he dropped off to get serviced. He argued that they breached the "satisfaction guaranteed" policy on their fine print. The judge ruled in favor of the dry cleaners.
Bathroom gender signs
In 1995, a man sued the Jack Murphy Stadium and the city of San Diego for $5.4 million for having unisex bathrooms. He got upset after seeing a woman use a urinal in the bathroom. Needless to say, he lost his case.
A California woman sued Google Maps $100,000 for giving her "unreasonable and unsafe" directions to reach her destination. Google reportedly never received a copy of the lawsuit and the case went nowhere.

A Latina woman sued Wendy's in 2005 after claiming that she found a finger in her chili. In actuality, she planted her husband's severed finger, which he lost while on the job. The food chain claimed it suffered $21 million loss in revenue and the woman served four years in prison for the greedy and distasteful hoax.
