I can't stress enough how much I HATE shopping for foundation. Buying mascara, eyeliner and shadow palettes are easy, but finding a makeup base that perfectly matches my skin tone is a real challenge. You see, it seems like it's not that easy to figure out!

Finding a foundation formula that perfectly matches your complexion could be a daunting task. Believe me, I hear you! I've spoken to tons of celebrity makeup artists who always advise me to choose a shade based on my undertone. But how do I know what my undertone is exactly? That's where things get tricky, right?
In case you didn't know, your undertone is the color beneath your skin that never changes. For instance, you might get darker during the summer time but your undertone will stay the same. This is why it's so important to know whether you're "cool," "warm" or "neutral." Are you pink, reddish, yellow or golden? So I decided to do a little digging and found some super simple tips to help you find your undertone. Check them out before you buy your next bottle of foundation!
What's your vein color? One of the best ways to figure out if you're "warm" or "cool" is looking at the inside of your wrist. What color do your veins look like? If they're more blue/purple you're cool. If they're blue/green you're neutral and if they're greener you're warm.
What's your jewelry shade? This might sound like a silly tip, but the kind of jewelry that flatters your complexion can also indicate if your undertones are warm, cool or neutral. I look WAY better when I accessorize with gold jewelry which is how I know my undertones are warm. Cooler tones look better with silver and neutral tones look great with both!
What color does your skin appear in the sun? Complexions with cooler undertones tend to have a blue-ish tint to them in the sun, like a pink or berry-red tan. Neutral undertones can appear greenish, and warm ones appear yellowish or golden.
What colors do you look good in? If you look great in pastel colors, you probably have cool undertones. If bright oranges, yellows or fuchsias make your complexion glow you're warm. And if you look like a million bucks in either one, you're neutral!
What are your blush colors? Women with warmer tones look amazing with peachy, coral blushes while women with cooler tones look good with reds and pinks.
