Pope Francis continues to prove that he is the dopest pope ever! He was doing his thing, presiding over the baptism of 33 babies at the Sistine Chapel and basically told all the mommies there that if they needed to whip out a chi-chi and breastfeed in the Sistine Chapel, that they should go on and do it. Now, of course you know I'm paraphrasing, but still, Pope Francis made it clear that women should feel no shame when it comes to breastfeeding in public even if it's in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, yo!

What Pope Francis said during the mass is, "You mothers give your children milk and even now, if they cry because they are hungry, breastfeed them, don't worry." As a supporter of public breastfeeding, he makes me want to shout with joy because, RIGHT ON! In your face, uptight people who have a problem with breastfeeding! If the pope can handle it, you need to get over your shizz.
Oh, and this is NOT the first time that he lets it be known he is in favor of public breastfeeding. Last year, when he was presiding over the baptism of 32 infants he said, "If they are hungry, mothers, feed them, without thinking twice. Because they are the most important people here." Yes, yes and YES!
I breastfed both of my children for over two years each and I breastfed them on demand no matter where I was because they were hungry and there is no shame (or there shouldn't be) in nursing your baby. I tried using a cover, but my kids weren't having it and I found it annoying too. I am fortunate that I live in San Francisco where no one batted an eyelash at the sight of a nursing mother, but it pains me that mothers in other places are treated like they are indecent for doing something that at the same time everyone claims is "the most natural thing in the world." So thank you, Pope Francis, thank you for reminding everyone that breastfeeding in public is in fact not a sin or even shameful.
