4 Creative ways to document baby’s first Christmas

My son was just six months old for his first Christmas, so of course, he had no idea that anything special was happening. But that didn't stop me and my husband from making a huge deal out of it. Any parent knows that the holidays become infinitely more special when there's a child involved. Teaching them why we celebrate, introducing them to our favorite family traditions and in a way getting to experience the joy of the season through the eyes of a little one is all so much fun. And let's not forget, most of us count childhood holidays as some of our fondest memories.

Now, we get to create those memories for our kids. But when they're really little, it's important to document these times because chances are, your baby is not going to remember her first Christmas on her own. Here you'll find a few great ways to do just that.

Lots of Photos

Whether it's a private session with a photographer, pictures with the mall Santa or a collection of candids you take throughout the season, do not skimp on photos. It may seem cliche, but they are the most realistic way to relive special moments. You can keep them in a special box, photo album or scrapbook that you add to every year–just be sure to get them off your phone, printed and stored in a special place.

First Ornament

I like the idea of making your baby's first Christmas ornament–the bulb picture above is so unique! If you're not crafty or don't have the time to make one, lots of stores sell specialty ornaments for baby's first Christmas.

Keepsake Gift

Baby's are too young to make gift requests, so now is the perfect time to get them a keepsake gift that they'll have forever and maybe even pass on to their kids. I love the idea of purchasing a Christmas themed book and writing a special dated inscription inside. Custom or personalized jewelry, blankets and picture frames are all great ideas as well.

Start Traditions

Whether it's going to see a Christmas light show, decorating your tree on a certain day, baking a specific type of cookie for Santa or anythinge else you can dream up, family traditions are a special part of the holidays. They may not result in physical mementos (or they may), but they will live in on in your hearts and those of your children. And being able to say you've done something from the very beginning certainly has a way of adding to its importance.
