The Internet's in an uproar over what could possibly be the first bar for pregnant women, Gestations, and I couldn't care less. Seriously, if people aren't smart enough not to drink while pregnant, or smoke or take drugs, why is it the Internet's job to save them from themselves?
Firstly, Gestations, a storefront in the East Village, is calling itself the city's "first bar for pregnant women." Gestations at Fifth Street and Avenue A says,
"All you mothers-to-be should come check out our trimester specials and our 9-month happy hour because now you're drinking for two!"

Gestations' Facebook page has a picture of a pregnant lady popping a bottle of bubbly with the caption that claims that expectant moms are the perfect clients because of the size of their big bumps.
Firstly, no liquor license has been applied for by Gestations so I'm assuming this is a viral marketing campaign. Poke the bear and piss the people off until they are fuming so much that they have no other choice than to come to Gestations to shut the whole place down; to protest, to save the unborn babies of the world from their crazed alcoholic moms.
Secondly, this is just speculation but there are such things as mocktails and non-alcoholic beverages like near beer and non-alcoholic wine. I mean pregnancy shouldn't mean a damnation to be a homebody for nine months and then the rest of your life. Maybe it's just a milk and cookie or juice bar. Or maybe it's a club that caters to people who can't drink alcohol?
The point is that people are lashing out and hating Gestations before the place is even in business. Talk about judging a book by its cover. I think this is just a viral marketing strategy that is quite ingenious and to be honest, I wish I lived in New York so that I could check this joint out for myself.
I wish there had been a place that I could have gone while pregnant to hang out with friends and dance and enjoy mocktails when I was pregnant because we all know once the baby is born, there will be no more of that.
Maybe we should all just wait and see what happens on "October 25 at 504 East Fifth Street before that water breaks." Maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised at what this company will be doing?
