Unplanned pregnancies are more common than you may think. With one in two pregnancies in the U.S being unplanned, according to government statistics, many women are faced with the challenges of how to deal with an unplanned pregnancy.

Try not to freak out. You may feel like you are having a nervous breakdown or get into solitary mode, but try your best to stay calm after your initial shock wears off. Letting your nerves get to you can affect your health and put your unborn baby at risk. Try to relax and make sure you have a solid support system. It wouldn't hurt to also have your friends and family's numbers on speed dial.

Put yourself first. Make sure to visit a doctor right after confirming your pregnancy. According to the Office on Women's Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, women should use this opportunity to improve on their health and well-being. Bad habits like smoking and drug use should be kicked immediately and any medication should be cut from your normal routine until visiting a doctor.

Get on the same page with your partner. It is super important to open the lines of communication with your partner. Ask yourselves: Are both of you ready for a child? How will the baby affect your future together? Are you financially ready to start a family? Making sure you air out all of your concerns will allow you to make a level-headed decision about dealing with the life the two of you started together.
