6 Ways to get amazing summer hair overnight

I don't know about you, but it's kind of hard for me to keep my hair healthy and looking good during the summer. Like it's a serious struggle. And, let's be honest, unless you're Gisele Bundchen it takes time and dedication (something most of us don't have) to get your strands looking on point during the hot and humid season. There has to be an easier way, right?

Luckily, there is and it's called treating your hair while you sleep. That's right, there are a ton of things you can do and products you can put in your hair so that you wake up with super, soft and gorgeous locks. Sleeping while getting stunning strands almost sounds too good to be true, but TRUST me it's not! After all, there's a reason why some women call it beauty sleep. Here are 6 ways you can get fabulous hair in your sleep!

Use coconut oil

I've slowly been transitioning my heat-damaged hair to strong, long strands all with the help of a little extra virgin coconut oil. Once a week (Friday night to be exact) I'd take a palm size amount and apply to my hair from root to tip. I then pull my hair into a high bun and then hit the sack. The following morning I'll wash my hair making sure to shampoo at least two times (to get all the oil out) and follow with a hydrating conditioner. It leaves my hair soft and shiny every time!

Do a hair mask

Any hair expert or stylist would tell you, if you want healthy hair do a treatment mask at least once a week. I love the new Carol's Daughter Cupuacu Anti-Frizz Smoothing Hair Mask ($24). Wash your hair before bed and then apply the hair mask, leaving it on for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it out and then apply a quarter-sized amount of a nourishing oil to the ends of your hair (the driest part). I recommend Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil ($48).

Spritz some dry shampoo

If you have fine, thin hair that easily weighs down and builds up oil, try spritzing some dry shampoo, like ALTERNA Beach Mango Coconut Refreshing Dry Shampoo ($20) at your roots before bed instead of in the morning. It helps to soak up all the oil and sweat you might be producing while you sleep. For some extra volume, make sure to tie strands in a lose top knot using a scrunchie that won't leave any dents or creases.

Braid your hair

I know a girl with naturally thick, straight hair that always shows up to work with gorgeous mermaid waves. That's because every night she applies a hydrating treatment, like Living Proof No Frizz-Leave In Conditioner ($24) to wet hair and then separates her strands into two sections. She braids both sections and then goes right to bed. In the morning she undoes the braids and runs her fingers through them so they have more of a natural wave (versus a 80s crimp) look to them.

Do the pineapple

Every curl girl I know swears by the whole pineapple technique. You basically just have to pull your curls up in a lose scrunchie and then wrap a head scarf around the base. This prevents curls from flattening or frizzing. So in the morning they're still soft and bouncy.

Sleep with some satin

Cotton tends to dry hair out which is why a lot of women these days sleep either with a satin pillowcase, satin bonnet or satin head scarf to keep hair frizz-free, soft and shiny all night long. Supposedly they work wonders!
