Every year when fall rolls around, I get excited about changing up my wardrobe—sweater weather!—and enjoying as many bowls of yummy soup as I can. However, I often forget that I also need to adjust my skin care routine. I don't know why I forget since fall comes every year at the same time, but I do.
More from MamásLatinas: Fall beauty trends you can easily put your own twist on
This year, I actually remembered ahead of time and put together this useful list of skin care tips for the fall to share with you. What I love about these tips is that they don't necessarily require you to spend much money on new products or anything, but you can if you feel like splurging a little or a lot.

Don’t let the drier air dry out your skin.
Did you know that the air in fall is for the most part drier than the air in summer? It is and that’s because cooler air holds less moisture than warm air. What does that mean for your skin? Well, dry air can pull moisture from your skin and leave you prone to rough, flaky skin that gets more easily irritated by allergens. Fortunately, there are pretty simple ways to keep your skin hydrated.
Try a humidifier like this 2.5L tank one made by Levoit.
Humidifiers can help ease skin and breathing problems caused by dry air. There are plenty of options to choose from like budget-conscious one, which is made by Levoit.

Consider using a richer moisturizer on your face.
I don’t know about you, but I tend to use lightweight lotions for my face in the summer because they just feel better. But come fall, it’s time to go for a richer moisturizer. The richer moisturizer that you choose will depend on the type of skin you have. A good ingredient to look for in a fall moisturizer is hyaluronic acid as it draws and binds water to the skin.
Try COSRX Hyaluronic Acid Moisturizing Cream.

COSRX Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream is designed to deliver moisture deep into your skin. Locking moisture in, the cream provides long-lasting nourishment and hydration. It is formulated with skin-friendly ingredients that alleviate irritated skin. Hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, animal testing-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free.
Add COSRX Pure Sodium Hyaluronic Acid 3% Serum to the mix.
If you don't want to swap out your moisturizer you can try adding COSRX Pure Sodium Hyaluronic Acid 3% Serum to your routine and layer it with your moisturizer.
Description:
3% Pure Hyaluronic Acid helps retain moisture and instantly plumps skin. Ceramide & NMF (natural moisturizing factors) strengthen the skin's barrier.
Moisturize your entire body.
The skin on your entire body needs hydration. Get yourself a good hydrating body cream and apply it right when you get out of the shower or bath. You don’t even have to wait until your skin is fully dry as a good lotion can help your skin retain some of that much-needed moisture.
Don't forget to hydrate from the inside out.
It's always important to drink plenty of water. Make sure that you continue to do so during the fall. Also, eat hydrating foods—think zucchini, carrots, broccoli. It's the perfect time to have nourishing soup with hydrating veggies in it.
Go easy with the exfoliating.
OK, so autumn can cause dry skin and dry skin can get flakey or look dull and you might be tempted to exfoliate the heck out of it. Don't! Exfoliating might leave you with dryer skin. Exfoliate less than you do in the summer and when you do exfoliate use gentle physical exfoliators or a gentle chemical exfoliator.
Try Fenty Skin Cherry Dub Superfine Daily Cleansing Face Scrub.
Description:
A cherry jam face scrub bursting with Barbados cherry, fruit enzymes, and caffeine that gently melts into a cushiony lather to visibly clarify, smooth, and refine pores.
Use a gentle cleanser.
You want to opt for a cleanser that does not strip away moisture. Consider using a water-based cleanser for both fall and winter to keep your skin hydrated and supple. It’s no fun to wash your face and end up with a dry and tight feeling.
Try CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash.
Description:
Daily face wash with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin to help hydrate skin without stripping moisture. Removes face makeup, dirt, and excess oil, provides 24-hour hydration and leaves a moisturized, non-greasy feel.
SPF is still a must.
Guess what part of the year you can stop wearing SPF? Never! The answer is never. If the sun is out, even if you don't think it's hot, you still need SPF. Why? Because SPF is designed to protect you from the sun's harmful rays and radiation, which are an issue all year long. Please protect yourself and your loved ones against skin damage all year long by using SPF. Period.
Stay away from hot showers and baths.
It’s so tempting to indulge in super-hot showers and baths when the weather cools down, but hot water actually dries out skin. I’m not saying you have to take cold showers or baths, just go for warm instead of hot and don’t spend too much time in the water or you will suck too much moisture out of it.
Be nice to your hands.
Consider moisturizing your hands and wearing gloves before washing dishes. Hot water and detergent are not exactly kind to the skin on your hands and can really cause some issues in the colder months.
