Kate Middleton ‘may never come back’ to her same royal role after cancer diagnosis

The British royal family has had a difficult 20204. Between King Charles III revealing he has cancer in February and Kate Middleton announcing her own cancer diagnosis in March, it's been a lot to take in. As a result of the Princess of Wales and King Charles prioritizing their health and undergoing treatment, other royals, including Prince William, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, have stepped in to make official royal appearances.

Although King Charles has resumed some of his work, the Princess of Wales has (understandably) undergone cancer treatment almost completely in private. Royal fans have been concerned for her and are looking forward to when she can step back into the public eye. However, Kate's royal role may reportedly never be the same again.

A source speculated Kate Middleton 'may never come back' to the same royal role she once held.

Alongside her husband, Prince William, Kate was once an extremely active senior royal family member. The Princess of Wales has now disappeared almost entirely from the public eye and even when she is better, things may not resume to what they previously were. Reportedly, Kate "may never come back in the role that people saw her in before,” an insider told Us Weekly on June 4.

Reportedly, Kate is 're-evaluating' what she can handle.

The source explained that amid Kate's time away from the public eye, the mom of three—who shares Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with Prince William—is reportedly "re-evaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back."

Amid his wife's cancer treatment, Prince William has continued to carry out his royal duties. He recently visited St. Mary's Community Hospital in the Isles of Scilly, where he was asked for a health update on Kate.

"May I ask how Princess Kate is doing?" hospital administrator Tracy Smith asked him in a video shared by Sky News on May 10.

"She's doing well, thank you," the future king replied.

William also answered a question about whether Kate is 'getting better.'

On June 5, Hello! magazine reported that a veteran asked Prince William about Kate during an event marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. The veteran reportedly asked if she was "getting better," and Prince William replied, "She'd have loved to be here."

In March, Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in a video.

After undergoing a planned abdominal surgery in January, further testing revealed that Kate had cancer, the royal explained in a video shared via social media on March 22.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she explained. “This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

She asked for 'time, space, and privacy' in her announcement.

In her video message, Kate made a request of royal fans.

"We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment," she said. "My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery."
