Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's relationship is an enigma. In October 2023, fans were shocked to learn the couple separated in 2016, but publicly acted as if they were happily married for seven years. It was a slap in the face, for sure (although nothing like the one involving Chris Rock).

Will and Jada didn't walk the red carpet solo. Their children, Willow and Jaden joined them, along with Will's son, Trey, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino. Also present for photos was Jada's mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris.
Jada showed off her stunning look on Instagram, and fans were obsessed.
That same night, Jada shared photos of her unique dress via Instagram. "@irisvanherpen is one Bad Girl who does it right," she declared in the caption, tagging the designer.
In the comments, Instagram users couldn't get enough of the look.
Singer Jewel declared, "Hell yes!!"
Another person wrote, "Stunning ," while someone else commented, "Iconic Gorgeous Goddess! ❤️ ."
Jada also supported Will at premieres of 'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
Although May 30 marked their first red carpet appearance in seven months, Jada supported Will at the Dubai and Riyadh premieres of Bad Boys: Ride or Die on May 22. She took to Instagram to share a photo of herself wearing a black dress. "An Arabian night with the @badboys," Jada wrote. "Thank you Riyadh for your warmth, hospitality and an incredible evening ♥️✨."
In October 2023, Jada revealed she and Will had been separated for seven years.
During a sit-down with Hoda Kotb, Jada confirmed her and Will's 2016 split.
"I think we were both kind of just still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be," she shared. "I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven't been able to break that promise."
Will spoke about the separation shortly afterward.
On October 18, Will supported Jada during a book tour event in Baltimore, Maryland, for her memoir, Worthy. He told the Baltimore Sun that he wanted to come "and hold it down for you the way you have held it down for me."
Will also described his and Jada's relationship as "very long and tumultuous," explaining. "We call it ‘brutiful.' It was brutal and beautiful at the same time."
Later, per the Baltimore Banner, Will added: "Can you show up and love somebody for the rest of your life, even when you don't agree with them? Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life."
