Tennis legend Serena Williams is the definition of a bada– mom. Not only did she win the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant with her first child, but she returned the following year and made it to the semifinals. In total, Serena has a whopping 23 Grand Slam titles and four Olympic gold medals to her name, solidifying her as the most successful player in the Open era of tennis. So you can imagine how heartbroken fans were when she announced in August 2022 that she was stepping away from her professional sport of 27 years.

Fast forward to May 2023, and it became crystal clear that Serena stepped back from tennis so she could grow her family. She surprised fans by debuting a bump at the Met Gala, effectively announcing that she and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, were expecting baby No. 2. The couple welcomed their first child, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September 2017, and will add a second child in late 2023. But will it be a baby brother or a baby sister for Olympia? On July 31, Serena took to Instagram to tease her upcoming sex reveal. She directed her followers to her YouTube channel in a follow-up post. "The big REVEAL is now live on YouTube!" she wrote. "Did you guess right?"

Serena's second Instagram post featured the expecting mama showcasing her baby bump. In a carousel of photos, the tennis star posed underneath a rainbow balloon arch with a sign that read, "Our next great adventure." And she looks simply radiant!

Once followers clicked over to Serena's YouTube channel, they found a video titled "THE BIG REVEAL!" The six-minute recording announced Olympia was getting a…drumroll please…baby sister! That's right, Serena and Alexis will soon be parents of two daughters.
But first, Alexis psyched out guests (and Serena!) with a fake cake reveal.
The couple revealed they are having a baby girl, but only after Alexis tricked guests—and his wife—with a fake cake reveal. In the video, Serena can be seen cutting into a cake decorated with pink and blue frosting, only to reveal the inside was yellow. (Typically, pink means a girl and blue means a boy.) Although the fake-out was orchestrated by Alexis, Serena was not in on it. The expecting couple and guests had to wait a bit longer, until after it was dark outside, to actually learn the sex of their baby.
The actual sex reveal happened with the help of a drone display.
Following the cake fake-out, Alexis and Serena revealed they were having a baby girl with the help of a drone display. The drones flew in the sky after the sun had set, first spelling out, "It's a" with blue and pink lights in formation. After an extended pause with no lights, a message in the sky read "GIRL!" in all-pink, prompting celebration from the people below.
Could their daughters become the next Venus/Serena duo?
In both the YouTube and Instagram comments, folks pointed out what Serena having two daughters could mean years down the road. One YouTube user wrote: "She's re-creating little Serena and Venus. Love it for her. Their legacy continues. Congrats to the entire family."
