Recently, he did J.Lo’s nails for the Ralph Lauren Spring 2023 show in an exquisite Bordeaux color and guess what? More from MamásLatinas: Fall 2022 nail trends we love & you will too
Below, Tom breaks down what inspired Jen’s manicure. What appeals to me is the simplicity and that it looks fantastic on a short nail. It’s the kind of manicure you can opt for regardless of whether it’s a special event or just another day in your very special life. It’s also fun and affordable to treat yourself to some new nail polish, so we’re including links to all the products that Tom used on Mrs. Affleck so you can get you some.

Tom was inspired by what Jen was wearing.
“[Her] look, pure Ralph Lauren. Makeup was clean and fresh. Hair perfection in glamorous waves. Beautiful, classic, minimalist was the vibe and nails needed to complete the look. We went with essie's #424 Bordeaux to do just that!”
What about the length and shape of the nails?
Tom says, "Short strong natural shaped nails help the color pop. Paired with the Ralph Lauren black pinstripe dress and gold jewelry gave us timeless strength, sophistication, and style!”

These directions are from Tom Bachik himself:
- I started by first giving a meticulous mani.
- Next, I cleansed the natural nails and applied Essie First Base base coat.
Invest in a good base coat.
Think of a base coat as the foundation of your mani. A good foundation will help your color pop and protect your work. If your nails have ridges, there are even base coats like the Smooth-e from Essie that help even out the texture of your nails.
OK, Tom, what comes after the base coat?
Tom says:
- Then two thin, even coats of Essie Bordeaux.
- Let the color dry a minute or two before applying top coat.
The picture of Jen sitting on Ben's lap doesn't really have anything to do with the manicure, I just couldn't resist sharing it. Sorry, not sorry at all.
Buy Essie #424 Bordeaux.
This is a deep wine color that you will not regret buying. It's elegant and classic as opposed to being trendy. This shade is not going to ever feel dated or antiquated. It's a Classic with a capital C.
Tom suggests using Essie Gel Setter top coat.
This particular top coat gives nails a gel-like shine and helps extend the life of a manicure. If you look at Jen's nails in previous pictures, you'll notice that they definitely have a shine to them that ups the glam factor in a subtle way.
