2021 People’s Choice Awards: The best and worst looks

The annual People's Choice Awards were held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, and the stars showed up in looks that ran the gamut from classically formal to modern and edgy, and a little bit of everything in between. The long-running awards ceremony, which honors talent in all areas of entertainment, including actors, musicians, and pop culture figures, was presented with an in-person audience for the first time since 2019, and the celebrities in attendance took the opportunity to have fun with fashion.

More from MamásLatinas: The best and worst looks from the VMAs 2021 red carpet

One thing is for sure, whether good or bad, celebs seemed to have a whole lot of fun dressing for the 2021 People's Choice Awards. From Christina Aguilera and Cardi B to Halle Berry and Kim Kardashian, there were lots of interesting looks on the red carpet this year. Best: Cardi B

Rapper Cardi B looked absolutely stunning and so classy in a sparkly, deep pink, floor-length gown covered in square sequins that created a mirror effect. The dress was from design house SOL by Irena Soprano.

Best: Becky G

Latina singer Becky G was jaw-dropping in this yellow and black satin gown by Roberto Cavalli. It was elegant, but far from boring, and fit her beautifully. The high slit and side cutout showed just enough skin without going overboard.

Best: Madison Bailey

Outer Banks actress Madison Bailey absolutely glowed in this sparkly, silver Moschino gown. The swirls on the dress were so visually interesting, and we love that she went minimal with the accessories, and showed off her curly hair.

Best: Tracee Ellis Ross

Actor and businesswoman Tracee Ellis Ross wore this Balenciaga look so well. She looked fashion-forward and interesting, while still allowing her vibrant personality to shine with playful accessories.

Best: Kim Kardashian

Love or hate Kim Kardashian's all-black 2021 Balenciaga looks, it's clear Kim knows how to rock and aesthetic and see a theme through, and we can appreciate that. Kim honestly looked great, and we love that she amped the look up a bit with this textured fabric, the fun shades and the sparkly earrings. She didn't win the Fashion Icon award for nothing.

Best: Mindy Kaling

Comedian, actor, and producer Mindy Kaling looked so sexy in this Pamella Rowland gown. It showed off her natural curves beautifully and that little peek of skin at the bust was so flattering. This lady knows fashion.

Best: Leslie Jones

Comedian Leslie Jones looked fantastic in this neon green Christian Siriano cocktail dress. It fit her like a glove, the color was beautiful on her complexion, and the entire look paid homage to her personality. We love her little rainbow heart clutch, too!

Best: Karamo Brown

Afro-Latino TV personality Karamo Brown, looked so elegant in this navy suit. The fit was excellent, and the entire look gave us an Old Hollywood leading man vibe, but with the shimmer to make it modern. We're not sure who the designer is, but they did that.

Worst: JoJo Siwa

We love to see JoJo Siwa's style evolving, we really do, but somehow this frilly pink tiered Jenny Packham number looked almost too mature on the bubbly 18-year-old entertainer, especially with her half-up/half-down hairstyle and that casual gold chain.

Worst: Halle Berry

We're so happy that Halle Berry was honored with the People's Icon award, but we are not feeling this look. The lavender sequined catsuit with denim trim, felt far too casual for the occasion, and while her hair and makeup were perfection, the overall look lacked elegance and didn't feel unique enough for someone like Halle, who often takes fashion risks.

Worst: Paris Jackson

We love to see musician and the daughter of the late Michael Jackson on the red carpet, but we did not love this Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood look on her. It just wasn't flattering. She described the aesthetic as, "grunge fairy core."

Worst: Christina Aguilera

Our girl Christina Aguilera was deservingly presented with the Music Icon award at the People's Choice Awards this year, and she also took the stage to perform a medley of some of her most iconic songs, with outfits to coordinate, one of which she wore on the red carpet. She recreated her yellow chaps look from the "Dirrty" era, which made us feel nostalgic, but didn't look as great as the feeling felt. Maybe it was the satin, or the weird corset that looked more like a back brace, but it was just strange.

Worst: Sarah Hyland

She's cute, no doubt, but we would have preferred to see former Modern Family star Sarah Hyland in something that didn't look like a couple of half-melted marshmallows. Her and makeup were so chic, but would have looked better with a sleeker dress than with this Vera Wang two-piece.

Worst: Garcelle Beauvais

It wasn't so much the Carolina Herrera gown that we didn't love about Garcelle Beauvais' People's Choice Awards look, but the accessories. She needed to edit the entire look. The gloves and boots are too clunky for such a voluminous dress and took away from the elegance. We love the color on her though!

Worst: Sutton Stracke

Perhaps our least favorite look of the night was Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Sutton Stracke's Alexander McQueen outfit. It looks like an old lady pantsuit that is trying way too hard. Then her hair competes with the dress's voluminous sleeves and the shoes aren't quite the right shade of red.

Worst: Echo Kellum

We're really not into Arrow actor Echo Kellum's sleeveless suit. Instead of looking edgy and cool, the look falls flat, because there's not enough else going on to make it a true fashion statement. If you're gonna go nontraditional as a guy, go bigger.
