If you were blessed with a medium or dark complexion, then you know that's it's not always easy fi__nding makeup for your darker skin tone.__ In fact, it wasn't until after college that I really started buying makeup. Before that I would just line my eyes with eyeliner and add a few coats to my lashes–that was it! Finding a foundation that perfectly matched my tan/caramel-y skin tone seemed impossible and I didn't even know where to start when it came to lipsticks, eyeshadows, and blushes.

I can't tell you how many times I've picked up the wrong shade of makeup and wound up looking ashy or washed-out. But don't stress, girl! Whether your skin is medium, dark, or in between there's a perfect makeup shade for you. Check out a few of my tips below!

Foundation
Most Latinas with medium or dark skin tones tend to have yellow or golden undertones. Look for a brand that includes a wide variety of shade options. I love Bobbi Brown Long Wear Even Finish Foundation SPF 15 ($48) and L'Oréal Paris True Match Super Blendable Makeup ($11). Apply three shades closest to your complexion across your jawline. The color that easily blends into your face and matches your neck is your best bet.
Blush
Finding a blush that pops against medium and dark skin can be tricky. But the right shade can really pull an entire look together. An orange-based blush looks great against a warm, medium complexion. Try Yves Saint Laurent Creme Blush in Audacious Orange ($38). I also love rocking bright pinks, like Becca Beach Tint in Lychee ($25). Deeper shades like Josie Maran Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Berry Bliss ($22) compliment a darker complexion.
Eyeshadows
Avoid pale or pastel colors that can make you look ashy. Instead, look for rich bronzy shades that will instantly warm up your skin tone and brighten your eyes. I'm obsessed with Urban Decay's Naked Palette ($52).
Lipstick
Bright and bold lipsticks look especially great on tan and brown skin. Don't be afraid to experiment with corals, hot pinks, deep berries, and ruby red shades. I'm always rocking CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Bombshell ($6).
