Warning: What you are about to see is probably one of the most graphic images you will ever encounter. Xiao Wei severed his hand during a workplace accident and Chinese doctors at the hospital found that they couldn't save it.
However, there was one option that doctors at another hospital opted to surgically perform to let him keep his hand. The procedure will leave you SHOCKED and maybe even a little woozy.

It's a miracle that doctors were able to save Wei's hand especially since the medical report said that his injuries were so severe that his arm was even flattened. The shocking decision doctors went with to keep Wei's limb was to ATTACH it to his ANKLE. And the hand spent a month grafted like that to his ankle!
I kid you not. Somehow this choice actually was super smart and doctors say that it was the only way to keep his hand well preserved. Doctors are hopeful that they will able to properly reattach Wei's hand once they have finished performing a number of surgeries on his arm. Despite the graphic and unique situation, the man is grateful that doctors were able to save him.
"I was just shocked and frozen at the spot, until co-workers unplugged the machine and retrieved my hand and took me to the hospital," Wei said of the accident. Lucky for him doctors did everything they could to keep his hand functioning. "I am still young, and I couldn't imagine life without a right hand," the young man said.
How crazy is that?! Never in a million years would I have thought that the best way to save a severed hand is by attaching it to your ankle. That has to be painful and uncomfortable! I'm glad to see that Wei will be fine, but the thought of losing a hand is scary. The image of his temporary attachment doesn't help either. As long as he'll be fine, it's a relief to know that he is not stuck like this for the rest of his life.
