The baby monitor has a cord attached to a sensor pad that has to be placed underneath the crib's mattress; this cord poses a strangulation risk, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, if the infant manages to pull it into the crib. The victims of this defect included a 13-month-old girl from California and an 8-month-old girl in Oregon. Two other infants have reportedly become tangled in the monitor's cord but survived.
The company says that the problem with the product is that the cord is long enough for an infant to get a hold of it and have it wrapped around its neck. According to the manufacturer, models AC1100, AC201, AC300, AC401, AC601, and 49255 are being recalled; they were made between 1999 and 2013.
I can't even imagine the horror of the victims' parents who bought a product to keep their babies safe, but it ended up being completely dangerous and fatal for their kids. So sad and scary.
