As if waxing wasn't unpleasant enough, now some salons are imposing a new "fat tax" on curvier women. London salon MM Bubbles offers everything from manicures, pedicures, waxing, and even body wraps. And these days they're charging all their customers size 12 (the equivalent of a size 8 in the U.S.) and up and extra 5 pounds (around $8 bucks) for a 45-minute leg wax. Can you believe that crap?

Apparently the salon owner feels she can get away with this because her larger customers supposedly use up more materials. In fact, that's exactly what she told the size 22-24 woman The Sun sent to MM Bubbles for a waxing treatment. "I know maybe for you it is not very nice but I use more stuff," she said. I don't care what they say, there is absolutely NO justifying this. They are discriminating and embarrassing women purely based on their size. Wait until you read the response they sent the Huffington Post. It's going to have your blood boiling!
Please note that this is quite common in beauty salons in London. Our waxing prices are advertised as a "starting from." I don't see this approach as a discrimination against larger persons, is just common sense. If we use more time and products on one particular customer we need to add a small surcharge. We cover our extra costs in this way. The same logic is applied when someone is going in a hairdressing salon. He/she will be charged depending on the length of the hair.
Oh hell no! How are you going to compare the length of someone's hair to a woman's body size? That is by no means the same thing. What I want to know is, how is this salon getting away with this BS? Are they straight up asking these women what size they wear before charging them? This is crazy offensive!
I'll tell you one thing, there's nothing smart about how they're running this business. They better hope a large majority of their clients look like skinny super models or this salon is screwed big time!
