The most ridiculous excuses people have used to call in sick

If you have a job, you'll probably get sick at some point and have to call in sick. Totally fine and even encouraged if you are ACTUALLY sick, but we all know that sometimes people call in sick when they aren't actually sick. It happens a lot. So much so that CareerBuilder does an annual study on the subject, which includes some of the craziest reasons employees have given when calling out "sick" from work.

So in the CareerBuilder survey employers were asked to share the most memorable excuses they've gotten and these are just a few of the choice responses:

  • Employee's fake eye was falling out of its socket
  • Employee's false teeth flew out the window while driving
  • Employee couldn't decide what to wear

Okay, now the first two excuses that I sited are hilarious, but totally possible and I would say even valid reasons for calling in sick, but the last one is just absurd. Since when is a fashion crisis a disease? If that is the case then we've got a lot of sick people walking around in Walmarts across the nation who should be at home getting better.

This survey totally cracks me up and reminds of my mother's all time favorite excuse when calling out sick from work. She is now retired, but when she was still working outside of the home, she would use this excuse on a fairly regular basis and encourage others to use it to as well. I am sure that she would have no problem with you borrowing the excuse the next time you want to call in sick.

Her fail-safe calling out sick go-to excuse is diarrhea. Yup, you just call your work and say, "I can't come in because I have diarrhea." It works, try it.
