There is an ongoing joke about Instagram and how users just post pictures of their meals. Well, it turns out this technique might actually be making them skinnier! A recent study found that seeing dozens of food photos can make them appear less appealing to eat later on. Hence your cravings disappear and keep the pounds away.

This is just one of the MANY ways that Instagram can help you lose weight. Check out its other benefits below!

Weight loss advice: If you type in Hashtags such as #healthyeating #diet or #losingweight, you will find other people who are on their own weight loss journeys or weight loss coaches. They are often offering advice on foods to eat or health facts you didn't know. You never know who you will meet!

New recipe ideas: One of my favorite things about Instagram is that I am able to get a lot of healthy recipe ideas. All you have to do is enter the name of an ingredient in the hashtag tab and thousands of different meals will appear. Often times people are generous enough to share their recipes and step-by-step process.

Motivation: If you're lazy when it comes to exercise, Instagram is the perfect motivator. Seeing a picture of another Instagram follower working out outdoors, or an inspiring fitness quote can easily get you going. Remember, it's all mental than it is physical when it comes to exercise.

Celebrity inspiration: If you follow celebrities such as America Ferrera who have dropped lots of weight, they usually serve as weight loss inspiration. You also have celebs such as Jessica Alba or Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima who maintain healthy and active lifestyleswho can serve as your own daily motivation as well.

Healthy food looks prettier in filters: I find that foods that have lots of bright veggies or fruits stand out and make for a better Instagram picture. The trick is that it encourages you to keep making equally healthy dishes and to experiment with other healthy ingredients that add more pop to your plate.
