Whenever I wear sleeveless tops I always feel extra self-conscious about my dark underarms. I don't have the time or patience to get my pits waxed every three to four weeks like some women. So instead I shave them, which unfortunately causes the dark marks. I know a ton of Latinas that also struggle with this pesky problem and have no clue how to lighten them up. But don't worry–there's definitely a solution!

In fact, whenever I notice my pits looking a little dark, I like to whip up an old school armpit remedy my abuela used to use back in the day. It includes brown sugar (to exfoliate dead skin cells), turmeric (to heal scars), and lemon (which works to lighten skin). Find out how to make it yourself at home, and believe me it really works!
What you need:
4 teaspoons of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of turmeric
1 lemon
What to do:
1. Start off by mixing the turmeric powder and the brown sugar together in a small bowl.
2. Then squeeze the juice from one lemon into the mixture.
3. Scrub the mixture under your underarms for a few seconds then try leaving it on for 10-15 minutes if you can.
4. Wash away with lukewarm water and notice significantly lighter pits!
