
This year's celebration of Rosh Hashanah started on sundown Wednesday September 4 and ends the evening of September 6. Rosh Hashana means "head of the year," which totally makes sense since it is a celebration of the new year according to the Hebrew calendar.
Observing Jews throughout the world will take the time to reflect on the past year and commemorate the new one. As with most celebrations, food is involved. Yay, for any and all occasions that involve delicious food.

Latino Jews from Mexico to Puerto Rico to Brazil to the United Sates to you name it, will be celebrating and cooking up Rosh Hashanah meals with Latin flare. Take for example the great recipe for brisket chile con carne. It sounds worthy of a celebration all on its own.

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cups chopped leftover brisket
1 14-ounce can tomatoes, drained and coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 bay leaf 1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
14 ounce can beef broth
15 ounce can beans, drained
