As much as I love fruits and vegetables, storing them can be a real pain in the butt. There are some as you know that should be refrigerated, while others, you should leave at room temperature. How exactly are we supposed to know which should be refrigerated and which can be left out on fruit bowls?

For the longest time I thought refrigerating onions was the right thing to do, but little did I know I was doing it wrong all along. Thanks for misinforming me, mami! Not shockingly, it wasn't just onions I was storing improperly, but other fruits and veggies as well.
These are some important rules to follow because it can make a difference between long-lasting or spoiled produce. The last thing you want to do is combine two fruits or vegetables that don't belong together!

Fruits to refrigerate: Blueberries, Strawberries, Raspberries, Cranberries, Apples, Figs, Kiwis, Grapes, Mangoes, Pears, Nectarines, Apricots, Peaches, Plums
Fruits kept at room temperature: Avocados, Bananas, Lemons, Limes, Oranges, Watermelon, Cantalope, Honeydew, Pineapple
Vegetables to refrigerate: Spinach, Squash, Lettuce, Green Onions, Kale, Collard Greens, Eggplants, Cucumbers, Corn, Celery, Broccoli, Asparagus, Beets, Carrots,Cauliflower
Vegetables kept at room temperature (refrigerate when cut): Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Garlic, Onions, Peppers, Tomatoes
