I can't think of a better way to switch up your look than with a new burst of color. With that said, because curly hair tends to dry out a lot easier than straighter textures, make sure you opt for a look that not only flatters your curls, but that you're willing to keep up with. Remember, chicas, moisture is your BFF! So once you've got that down, you can get to the fun part which is picking out your color. Don't have a clue? Blonde
Keeping blonde-dyed curls like Shakira’s can definitely be a challenge. If your hair is naturally very dark it might require bleaching, so make sure to seek a professional hair colorist for best results. Also, invest in color protective products, like John Frieda Sheer Blonde Lustrous Touch Strengthening Shampoo ($5) to avoid fading.
Caramel
Caramel or honey-colored tresses tend to flatter warmer skin tones. Look for a deeply moisturizing formula that won’t dry your strands out. Try Garnier Olia Oil Powered Permanent Color ($10).
Medium brown
Looking for something subtle? Try a medium brown shade, like Judy Reyes' color. Chances are it’ll work with your skin tone and won't be as harsh on your hair!
Highlights
Not interested in all over color? Lighten up your locks with some highlights. I love the way Adrienne Bailon’s golden ones brighten up her face.
Ombre
If damage is your main concern, you might want to consider an ombre look. Worst case scenario, you just get a trim!
Black
Dark black strands might look too harsh on certain skin tones, but if you have a tan complexion like Camila Alves or darker it might just work.
