I have pin straight hair, which actually has become sort of wavy since giving birth last year to my son. So I'm always on the lookout for easy ways to create curls or just even out and clean up my new waves. For that I've relied on the regular old clip curling irons for years–but the challenge this week was to try out some clipless curling wands and see how they worked out.
So I tried the affordable Remington T-Studio Silk Ceramic Curling Wand in Wide ($30) and the splurge-worthy Sultra Bombshell 1-Inch Rod Curling Iron ($130). The results will actually shock you!

No I'm serious when I say you'll be shocked by the results. I honestly was:
I started out trying the Sultra wand. I went into this test thinking that price equaled quality, but boy was I wrong. The curling want itself is really good, comes with a cute wrapping cloth for when it's not in use (so it doesn't burn your dresser as it cools down!) and the mandatory anti-burn glove. Disclaimer: I wasn't too experienced with curling wands, so I pretty much had to learn to use them for this test. This want, though expensive, didn't do much for me. It has no temperature setting so it's just "hot" without the ability for me to control that. And while I may get more out of it if I were more experienced, I had a really hard time with it!
The more affordable Remington wand, on the other hand, was a curling dream come true for me. I honestly went in expecting this product to be the faulty one, but it performed better than I ever expected. First off, it has a temperature control! I hardly ever see this on the more affordable hair tools. But not only is that great, the temperature actually goes up to 410°F–a heat setting I hardly ever see on mass market brands. It was also much easier to handle than its expensive counterpart, with twisting handles and plastic non-heating pieces at the top to grab, which may seem like something little, but it's a HUGE help when you're a fairly inexperienced curling rod user.
So in the end, I wholeheartedly recommend the Remington T-Studio Silk Ceramic Curling Wand. Now I'm off to curl my hot weather-worn frizzy tresses!
