Washing your makeup brushes should always be a regular part of your beauty routine. Dirty makeup brushes can actually be hazardous to your health–they are full of dirt, makeup (obviously), oil, and gross bacteria that can clog pores and lead to breakouts. Plus, if you don't clean your brushes regularly they can get damaged over time too.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I can easily go months without cleaning my makeup brushes. Gross, I know. But read on–cleaning your makeup brushes is not as hard as you think!

The good news is that cleaning your makeup brushes is pretty easy and doesn't really take all that much time. Put aside a few minutes during the weekend to get the deed done, and believe me you'll feel so much better about it later. Just FYI: If you plan on doing your makeup that day, definitely do it before washing your brushes because it's going to take your brushes a few hours to dry. Now check out a few of my tips to help you get those makeup brushes clean and healthy!
Step 1: I always start off by rinsing my brushes in lukewarm water. Make sure to get as much makeup bits out of them as possible.
Step 2: Take a small cup and fill it half way with water. Spritz on some makeup brush cleanser, like Sephora Daily Brush Cleaner ($6) to each individual brush. Then one by one, dip the brush and twirl it (facing down) in the cup of water until all the dirt is out. If you don't have a makeup brush cleanser, you can also just add a little bit of a gentle clarifying shampoo instead.
Step 3: Now rinse each brush with lukewarm water.
Step 4: Take a thin cloth to gently wipe the brushes. To help keep each brush's shape and prevent dust or dirt from falling on them, slip them through a mesh brush guard. Try the Brush Guard Variety Pack ($6)
Step 5: Now stand the brushes (with the top part facing up) in a cup to dry.
See, I told you it wasn't that hard!
