Curly Q: I have relatively straight hair, but I'd love to rock some sexy beach waves this summer. Any tips on how I can achieve this look?
Beach waves are probably one of the coolest and most laid back styles you can rock this season. But just because you don't have naturally wavy tresses like Paulina Rubio (pictured here) doesn't mean you can't get (or fake them). In fact, it's actually a lot easier to do than you'd think. Check out a few of my easy-to-follow tips below to help you get beautiful beach waves in no time. And put down that curling iron! You can definitely skip it for this style.

Step 1: Begin by washing hair with a curl enhancing shampoo, like Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Shampoo for Curls and Waves ($4), to help create definition. Then follow with a conditioner that's also going to create a similar effect.
Step 2: Try detangling strands with your fingers, instead of with a comb to help preserve the waves and prevent frizz as much as possible.
Step 3: While your hair is still damp, apply a sea salt spray that's going to create natural looking waves, as well as boost volume. I recommend John Master's Organics Sea Mist Sea Salt Spray with Lavender ($17). It smells pretty amazing too.
Step 4: For more definition, attach a diffuser to the end of your blow dryer and set it on low or medium heat. Now tilt your head upside down and let the diffuser cup your strands from ends to roots. Continue to lift your dryer towards the scalp and hold. The idea is to allow it to scrunch your waves to help create and hold shape. Repeat the process with small sections of hair, until your head is about 80 percent dry.
Step 5: Hold the look with a strong but flexible hold hair spray, like DevaCurl Flexible Hold Hair Spray ($9). This will leave your waves defined but touchable.
Now go show off your beach-worthy look!
