Apparently, Nena had just had a litter of puppies and all but two had died. So when Kimberleigh Kernon of Florida rescued her about two ago, the pit bull was sad and depressed.

"She missed her babies," said Kernon. As Kernon was trying to find a solution that would make the pooch feel better, she came across a story on Facebook of six shih tzu-poodle mix puppies whose mother had gotten hit by a car just days after they were born. Kernon didn't hesistate. Through a network of rescue volunteers, she organized transport of the puppies from South Carolina to Florida and brought them.

At first, she was worried about introducing them to Nena, but the pit bull took to mothering them immediately. Now, the entire brood–including Nena's two surviving pit bull puppies–all act as one litter. And though the shih-tzus are tiny in comparison to the other offspring, Kernon says Nena treats them all the same.

"She's a good mama," Kernon said. "They sleep on top of each other and they snuggle together, and it's really neat."

Aww, talk about cuteness overload! Seriously, doesn't that just melt your heart? What a great story. It's so amazing to see that both Nena and the puppies are happy together now. Hopefully, those pups will continue to grow healthily under Nena's care, who is clearly one of the greatest mama pooches around!
