Today is National Donut Day! In 1917 the Salvation Army claimed the first Friday of June for the delectable donut or "doughnut" if you prefer. The holiday commemorates volunteers who went to France during World War I and served donuts to soldiers on the front line.
Dunkin' Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Tim Hortons, Entenmann's, and LaMar's are all running some kind of promotion for National Donut Day Friday, which could score you a deliciously free doughy treat or you could make some at home with just 4 ingredients you probably already have. Yup, stuff you already have.

National Donut Day seemed like the perfect reason for me to attempt to make my first donuts ever, so I scoured the interwebs for the easiest donut recipe I could find and I made them.
I won't lie, I burned the first batch. Yup, I walked away and when I came back I had made hard black pucks with a whole in the middle. Oh, well. The second batch came out splendidly. I'm glad I made them when my kids weren't around because if they saw how easy they are to make, they would want to eat donuts every day.
It's also great that with this recipe you will end up with yummy donut holes as well. My kids are particularly fond of those.
Here are the details so you can make your own.
Easy 4 Ingredient Donuts
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 8-count package large refrigerated biscuits (such as Pillsbury Grands)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
