Does anyone else feel like they can't keep count of all the new plastic surgery procedures that keep coming out? The latest on the rise is upper arm lifts surgery, with more than 15,000 performed just last year in the United States alone. Why is this particular procedure suddenly so popular? According to Dr. David Reath of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, it may have something to do with people's increasing weight loss success. Interesting, I know!

Think about it, where's the first place you start noticing hanging skin after losing a substantial amount of weight? Your arms! "When people are successful with weight loss, either through surgery or with diet and exercise, they can end up with excess skin on their arms," Reath told My Health News Daily. Makes perfect sense, no?
Reath claims that after a major weight loss, most women usually go for a tummy tuck, to get rid of the loose, excess skin around the abdominal area. The second most request surgery is the arm lift. The good news is that this means that women are really starting to take weight loss more seriously these days. But this surgery definitely comes at a high price, running anywhere from $6,000 to $8,000. It also comes with a few downsides, one being that it leaves scars on the upper arms and there's also risks that comes with going under anesthesia, like with most serious surgical procedures.
The popularity of the arm lift has increasingly gone up since 2000 and I honestly don't blame chicas for wanting to get it done. The truth is that when you loose a drastic amount of weight, there's going to be some extra skin hanging, no question about it. And sometimes not even working out can totally rid you of the problem. Heck, I'd be the first to admit that if I ever needed it, I'd definitely get it done. So if you have the funds by all means, go ahead! Just make sure to take the downsides and risks into consideration and always maintain those toned arms with strengthening arm exercises. The last thing you want is to go through a pricey, risky surgery just to wind up just where you started!
