When it comes to dieting we are all looking for fast, easy and effective. With all the dieting and weight loss articles out there, it's hard to determine what to believe and follow. For a long while, the belief has been that fat is bad. This of course isn't true since we do NEED fat, but how much is the question.
Losing weight can be a frustrating task if you really don't know where to begin. And dieters often misconstrue the difference between losing a pound and losing a pound of human fat.
According to Dr. Hensrud, there is 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. And although you can lose weight by cutting 3,5000 calories out of your diet, you're not losing fat. instead it's water weight during the initial stages of dieting. Dr. Hensrud explains that quick weight loss caused by diet and exercise causes the body to lose lean tissue, water and fat which makes it impossible to JUST lose fat right away.

Naturally if people reduce the amount of calories they consume dramatically, they are expected to lose weight, but the doctor explains that body fat is not pure fat and instead is also comprised of protein and water. The initial weight loss is considered "water weight" and although it's not fat, he still says you're still on the right track.
However, he does not recommend slashing 3,500 calories from your diet and says women should follow a 1,200 calorie a day diet as well as an exercise routine. He also adds that over 20 percent of people underestimate the amount of calories they consume daily and a low calorie diet will keep dieters at steady weight loss.
Dr. Hensrud agrees that increasing calorie intake overtime while exercising is a good idea–if you're looking for maintenance. But if weight loss is your goal, calorie restriction is the best way to approach your diet. Those looking to lose a couple of pounds also have to keep in mind that everybody is built differently and it's important to set realistic weight loss goals.
I was one of those people who misunderstood this SAME concept and now it makes a whole lot of sense! I guess it's how they say that abs are made in the kitchen not the gym? Now that you have a clearer understanding on weight loss, you're sure to achieve your dream body and remember it will take patience, dedication, and time.
