I always wondered why my boyfriend (and previous boyfriends) always preferred my hair naturally curly, rather than straight. That's because according to Harvard Medical School pscyhologist, Nancy Etcoff, Ph.D., textured hair tends to trigger sexual attraction.
Why you ask? Wavy, curly and coily hair tend to appear thicker and more voluminous, which most people tend to view as "sexy" hair. Think about it: There's a reason why Victoria's Secret models strut around with big, tousled tresses. Valentine's Day might be over, but I still have love and sex on my mind. And that means dolling myself up with a sexy, textured style. I reached out to John Frieda's Creative Consultant,Harry Josh for some tips on how to achieve some of these celebrity-inspired extra-sexy voluminous looks. If you want to get in on the action, check out a few of his expert tips below!

Soft loose curls

Zoe Saldana’s soft, loose waves are romantic and incredibly sexy. The kind of hair a man just wants to run his fingers through. “Start with very wet hair and finger comb in a hair serum, like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Serum ($9) from root to tip, then blow dry. Once hair’s dry, here’s the secret to romantic waves: you’re going to curl hair only from the ear level down. If you leave roots straight, curls look more natural,” says Josh.
Romantic loose updo

Most updos can come off stiff and old fashion. “A loose, wispy chignon makes the look more romantic and less formal and it’s actually super simple,” says Josh. “Starting with damp hair, add a small dab of a styling gel just to your roots. Using a fine tail comb, blow your hair out flat against your head. Then using the sharp end of the comb make a deep side part and smooth hair back into a bun. Pull a few front pieces loose for a feminine finish.”
Va-va-volume

Nothing says bombshell quite like a head full of voluminous hair. Josh suggests to start off using a blow out spray. I like Oribe Blowout Heat Styling Spray ($49). “Spray it on the crown of your head and blow dry, making sure to tug roots upward with a medium round brush. The spray is activated by the heat of your dryer to build a sexy, non-sticky lift,” he says. “When your hair is completely dry, spray on a shine spray, like John Frieda Frizz-Ease 100% Shine ($6) to finish your luscious look.” When it comes to hair, bigger is better!
Pinned up natural looking waves

Textured waves are super in this season and with good reason. This beachy, laid back style looks great with casual or dressy outfits. Josh suggests adding a thermal protecting serum to wet hair before styling. Try Nexxus Pro Mend Protexx Heat Protection Styling Spray($12). “Then, after towel drying, you want to layer on a volume-boosting mousse to thicken strands and give you a weightless hold,” he says. Try L’Oreal Paris Everstyle Volume Boosting Mousse ($7). “Once your hair’s prepped, go ahead and blow dry, using your fingers to create some texture. Amp up any natural waves you have with a curling iron. Hold it straight up and down while you wrap hair around the barrel, clamp quickly, and then release. The final step is to brush out your curls to make them look more deconstructed, and add a spritz of a light weight volume hairspray.” Try Pantene Fine Hair Volume Flexible Hold Hairspray ($4).
Sleek & straight (with body)

If you’re planning a romantic getaway, this look will last for an entire long weekend, so you can focus on more important things, “ says Josh who suggest applying a smoothing formula to damp hair before blow drying to get sleek, straight results. “Run a flat iron over to really lock in this style.” I always make sure not to pass the flat iron all the way to my ends to avoid stick-straight ends. Or use a flat-iron with a curved edged to help curl ends inward to give hair more shape and body.
