Save or splurge? Facial Toners are put to the test

I'll admit, for years I wasn't incorporating a toner into my beauty routine. I just didn't see the need for it and it was hard to find one that worked with my combination skin. While toners may not be a critical step in the facial cleansing process, they can be a great addition to your skincare regimen, especially for those with oily or acne-prone skin. When used correctly, toner works to remove excess oils that may remain on your face after washing and also help even out your skin tone. So after the new Alba Botanica Natural Advanced Facial Toner made its way to our office, I decided to give toners one last shot.

I tested the affordable Alba Botanica Natural Advanced Facial Toner ($10) up against the more expensive Melvita Lavendar Floral Water Toner ($22).

I absolutely LOVED the Alba Botanica toner and was actually surprised by the results. Unlike most toners I've tried, this one left my skin soft and supple. The issue I've had with most toners is that they leave my combination skin dry, irritated, and blotchy. This one did not of that. Its hydrating properties moisturized my face, while also evening out my complexion, which is ultimately what you want out of a toner. After cleansing my face with a gentle cleanser, I dampen a cotton ball with this toner and wiped it all over my face and neck. It left my skin with a nice, radiant glow!

The Melvita on the other hand, definitely had its benefits too. This organic floral water toner includes natural calming ingredients like Lavender that soothed and calmed my skin–a perfect pick-me-up after a long, stressful day! However, I do feel like a toner like this would be more beneficial for someone with oiler skin. Almost immediately after using it, my skin felt relatively dry and matte.

In the end, I absolutely have to go with the Alba Botanica toner. This cheap find does exactly what it claims to do and all for only $10, around what it costs me for Chinese takeout. I really couldn't ask for more!
