Everyone loves a baby's natural scent–you know, that adorable, sweet smell that just tugs at your heartstrings? Well now, Dolce & Gabbana is trying to bottle that into its first-ever fragrance for babies!
Apparently inspired by "the softness of baby skin, the freshness of baby breath, a mother's sweet hug,[and] the first smile," the alcohol-free scent is unisex and infused with notes of citrus, melon and honey. Hmm…while that sounds like it would smell great, I have to admit I'm not too sure how I feel about the concept of perfume for babies.
According to the company, the fragrance is only supposed to enhance the baby's natural scent, not cover it up. And though it might seem strange to have a perfume targeted towards such young kids, Dolce & Gabbana actually aren't the first in the market. Luxury lines Burberry and Bulgari also have baby fragrances.

I know that parents do often use children's products, like baby powder and lotions, that carry different scents…but for some reason, actually perfuming your kid seems kind of odd to me. Maybe it's because powders and lotions are used for other, useful functions and the scent is just secondary. But mostly, I think it's because babies are just so cute and sweet-smelling on their own! I feel like there's absolutely no need to shell out $45 a bottle to "enhance" their natural scent which everyone already loves. And what if it's actually bad for their ultra-sensitive skin?
The whole idea feels like its just part of the ever-growing trend of weirdly mature products for little kids. It's one thing to allow your elementary school daughter spritz on a little bit of your perfume every now and then, but for babies? That seems unnecessary.
