Recall alert: Popular sleeper by Fisher-Price might develop dangerous mold!

Mamás: If you own a Fisher-Price Newborn Rock 'N Play Sleeper, you will want to read this closely. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released a statement regarding Fisher-Price's voluntary recall of the popular newborn seats because more than 800,000 of them out in the market may easily develop mold.

Fisher- Price has received more than 600 reports of mold and of 16 babies who have had to be treated for respiratory issues, coughs, and allergies, since the seat's debut in 2009. If you think you own the seat and want to know if yours has been affected, find out after the jump.

This is an incredibly shocking recall. To have 800,000 seats at risk is WAY too many out there, especially for an item so common for newborn babies! Let's hope that none of these instances have resulted in fatalities since parents depend on these seats so much.

According to the CPSC, parents should check for dark brown, gray, or black spots that appears to be mold, and that usually develop after the seat is purchased if it's not cleaned often enough. If mold is found, parents are urged to contact Fisher-Price for cleaning instructions and help. Sleepers currently in stores do not seem to be affected, but the mold usually develops after the item has been in use.

The seat can develop mold between the removable seat cushion and the hard plastic frame if the sleeper remains wet or if isn't cleaned, the agency warns. In case you aren't sure if you own the item, its price range varied between $50 and $85, and it is a tubular metal rocking frame with a soft plastic seat cover meant to hold up babies weighing up to 25 pounds.

As an allergy sufferer myself, this would scare me if my child was exposed to mold. Babies' immune systems and bodies are still fragile and may not withstand strong allergic reactions. Hopefully no one has been seriously affected by this defect and in time, Fisher-Price should be able to fix the issue immediately.

In you are concerned about the mold issue on your baby's sleeper, please make sure to contact Fisher-Price at 800-432-5437 Monday through Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
