I'm not one to wear tons of makeup, but when I do, I like to play up my eyes. I feel like it's dramatic and usually lasts all night (and there's no danger of me getting my red lipstick all over my son's clothes had I decided to focus on my lips!). For work I can't live without my eyeliner and mascara, but for special occasions, I love wearing eye shadow, more often than not dramatic smoky black and white.
Recently, I was asked to compare two great stick eye shadows (the easiest ones there are for application and ease of use!): Cover Girl Smoky ShadowBlast in Onyx Smoke ($8) and Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Aigle Noir ($25). So which one won? Read on!
The Cover Girl Smoky ShadowBlast eye shadow stick was truly foolproof. I don't think I've ever gotten such an amazing smoky eye in such record time. In the past I've used regular powder shadows and brushes or a sundry of different kits that promise to be easy. But this one really was! The pointy side of the stick was a beautiful gray, not a heavy black, and the rounded side, which is used as the base color, was a really pretty silvery white. Both not only work on any complexion (like some of the makeup we saw earlier!), but are so easy to apply and don't go on heavy or clowny. I am in love.

The Nars Soft Touch Shadow Pencil was also great. The black color goes on smooth and almost shimmery, and lasts a long time. For me, though, getting the application right was a challenge. I think I'm eye-shadow-application-challenged, because it's usually hard for me to get the lines right–sometimes the color goes way outside of where it's supposed to go and I only irritate my eyes trying to fix it! I think this Nars Shadow Pencil is amazing, but I'll leave it for the professionals.
The clear winner was the Cover Girl Smoky ShadowBlast, which really simplified the eye shadow thing for me, saving me time and effort–and like I always say, as the mom of a new baby, that is really all I can ask!
