I'll admit, there's nothing quite like a sleek blowout. But even so, the smooth and shiny style shouldn't be coming in the way between you and the gym. Did you know that a lot of women avoid exercising in order to keep their hairstyle intact? According to Reuters, about two of every five African American women don't exercise because of concerns about their hair.
I'm sure this applies to a lot of us Latinas as well! With the obesity epidemic here in the United States, no one can afford to be skipping out on a workout. Besides, there are tons of things you can do to salvage your tresses even after a hard cardio session. Here are a few tips to help you keep your mane fresh so you don't have to choose between toned abs or sleek hair!

Smooth

Believe it or not, how you blow out your hair is just as, if not more important than what you do while you’re working out. Sweat and humidity can make maintaining a blow out pretty impossible. But if you’re not sweating buckets in a spinning class, a smoothing styling cream might help you keep your style an extra day. Try, Alterna Perfect Blowout Crème ($25).
Lighten up

To avoid an oily scalp, opt for a light weight conditioning treatment, like Moroccanoil Weightless Hydrating Mask ($39) and apply it to your ends only.
Pull back

Before starting your workout pull hair into a long ponytail using a slide-proof hair elastic that will gently secure your hair without leaving a crease. I like, Goody Stay Put Hair Elastics ($4).
Revamp

A few spritzes of a volume-boosting dry shampoo can make your tresses look fresh and voluminous. I recommend using John Frieda Luxurious Anytime Volume Fresher Dry Shampoo ($6) to absorb sweat and oil. Try spraying some on before your workout and then again after, to prevent the oil from your scalp from transferring to your ends.
Retouch

If a workout session caused my hair to frizz, I usually gently re-touch it with a flat iron. A mini one, like the Remington Mini Pink Flat Iron ($11) is perfect for straightening your roots.
Tease

Amp up a flat mane by teasing the hair at your crown with a teasing comb or brush, like Revlon Moonlight Teasing Brush ($3).
