Use a conditioning & sulfate-free shampoo
Traditional shampoos contain harsh detergents known as sulfates that strip curly hair of their natural oils. The lack of moisture normally results in frizz. To keep your ringlets smooth and hydrated, opt for a gentle and moisture-infusing shampoo, like DevaCurl No-Poo Cleanser ($19).
Constantly condition
Because curly hair is so prone to dryness, it’s important to keep it conditioned, especially during the colder months. Leave it in

Use curl cream
To give curls definitive hold, opt for a creamy hair pudding, like Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk Pudding Style Define Hold ($22). This conditioning cream helps define and shape curls without the crunch or sticky and flaky residue you get from most gels and mousse formulas.
Diffuse
If walking out the door during the winter with soaked, wet hair isn’t exactly your cup of tea, try blow-drying curls using a diffuser attachment, like Solano Finger Softstyler Universal Diffuser ($25). To avoid heat damage, make sure to spray a heat protective spray to locks first and blow-dry only until hair is 70 to 80 percent dry. Drying all the way can cause serious frizz.
