It's the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and, after what feels like a weeklong food coma, I'm about ready to burst. I literally can't eat anything else and I'm kind of desperate to make sure that I fit into my jeans come the next super-giant meal at Christmas. That's why I think what I seriously need right now is a little detox. Taking the advice of nutritionist Keri Glassman in her Women's Health magazine story, 16 Detoxing Cleanse Foods, I'm going to start eating more of these ASAP. In fact, I'm starting with these 5 Latin foods to detox–AND help me lose some weight, too!

Avocado

Avocados are one of the healthiest Latin fruits thanks to heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and gluthatione, which is a compound that blocks the absorption of certain fats by the intestines. So eat up!
Collard Greens

Collard greens help increase bile acid binding, which is good for keeping your LDL (also known as "bad" cholesterol) in check. My favorite way to have them is by making Brazilian-style collard greens and eating them as my regular dinner side dish.
Lemon

Actually, you can probably get away with just eating more citrus in general since they're all high in Vitamin C. I like to add more to my diet by having a grapefruit for breakfast, squeezing lime juice on my salad instead of calorie-rich dressings and putting lemon juice on my fish for dinner.
Onion & Garlic

Onions and garlic, a staple of the Latin diet, help to provide more flavor to your food AND they also have flavonoids that stimulate the production of glutathione, a great antioxidant. That's why both of these have great anti-bacterial and immune-boosting properties.
Yogurt

Greek yogurt helps to lower blood and the yogurts that contain probiotics gives you a healthy bacteria that helps with digestion and actually makes your body healthier. I love the many delicious ways to use yogurt in your regular diet.
