I've always been very much about taking care of my hair, but sometimes its texture gives me problems. My thick hair tends to get oily on days I don't wash it, which is a hassle since I don't like the idea of washing it every day. So when our beauty expert, Johanna Ferreira, introduced me to sulfate-free shampoos, I just had to try them out!
Before this test, I knew nothing about these sulfate-free shampoos. I learned they are the perfect solution if you like to wash your hair daily. Sulfates, which are a type of detergent found in most shampoos, tend to strip your hair of its natural oils if used too often. Sulfate-free shampoos are an ideal alternative since they're gentle enough to use daily. It's also more environmentally friendly, so what's not to love?
Johanna gave me a pricier and cheaper version of sulfate-free shampoos to expermient with: DevaCurl's No-Poo Cleanser ($18), and L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Reparative Smoothing Shampoo ($5). So which one did I like best?

DevaCurl No-Poo Cleanser was my first test. Although my hair is straight and DevaCurl makes beauty products for curly haired girls, it got the job done. What I noticed I loved about sulfate-free shampoos is that they don't create a bubbly lather like other shampoos. I liked that it had a creamy conditioner-like consistency and had a different feel while it was in my hair. Not only was it cleansing it, but conditioning it too–and it sure felt that way. Afterwards I towel dried it and let it dry overnight and found my hair to be clean and super soft the next morning.
The other product I tested, L'Oréal Paris EverSleek Reparative Smoothing Shampoo, also didn't create many suds, much like its competitor. I loved that I didn't have to worry about getting soap into my eyes, haha! This one, on the other hand, was clear and not creamy like DevaCurl. It felt super lightweight when I poured it onto my hair and smelled great. I also noticed I was tangle free, which is a relief since my hair is prone to that. The best part, as the label says, is that it left my hair frizz free–another issue for girls with thick hair.
The winner? Has to be the L'Oréal EverSleek Reparative Smoothing Shampoo. I like the fact that this shampoo is kinder on my wallet and the tube will last me a while. Although DevaCurl did its job, the bottle probably won't last me for more than a month–and that can get expensive. I'll definitely be making this L'Oréal shampoo a part of my everyday beauty routine!
